Trained as a Three-Dimensional Designer, Frank managed own creative consultancy group for 25 years, employing and managing designers in interior, graphic, branding, advertising, conference, venue, and exhibition design working with UK, European and Asian clients. Later he went on to offer design and management consultancy to various entities before being recruited by the Chartered Society of Designers to deliver strategic change.
During his time as Chief Executive of CSD he has designed and developed various service offerings and user experiences to promote the profession of design, including; gaining permission from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to develop the world’s only Register of Chartered Designers, developing a framework for professional design practice CPSK™ now internationally recognised offering a Pathway to Chartered Designer status, and establishing an international educational accreditation programme with 70 plus participating courses, across 16 institutions delivered in 8 countries.
In agreement with HRH The Duke of Edinburgh (Prince Philip), Frank became the Honorary Secretary of the Prince Philip Designers Prize established in 1959 and developed a new international initiative, the Prince Philip Student Design Awards of which he is also the Honorary Secretary.
His portfolio of activities now includes, academic consultancy, authoring of design courses, and design curatorial services. Drawing on his experience as a member of the Quality Assurance Agency Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Bodies steering committee and Higher Education Authority Subject Benchmarks in Design consultative committee, he also advises on design education quality and standards nationally and internationally. In addition, he also advises organisations and businesses on governance and strategic direction.
Frank is also a qualified Chartered Director, Fellow of the Institute of Directors, sits on the Senate of the Genesis Initiative for UK SMEs as well as a regular contributor to their Bank of England advisory group representing the interests of the design business. He is the UK Ambassador for the Global Education Policy Network in collaboration with UNESCO, a member of their Global Experts Panel and sits on their strategy committee. He is also the UK Ambassador for the Tigullio Design District initiative and international collaboration focusing on marine and outdoor design.
